All that Glisters Comes to Farnham
Press release
12 December 2006 - Modern Craft from the British Council, 13-31 January 2007, at the Crafts Study Centre, University College for the Creative Arts, is an exhibition that shows off an exciting body of contemporary craft gifted to the Crafts Study Centre by the British Council in 2006. Items in the exhibition focus on the 1980s and early 1990s and include textiles by Mary Restieaux and Sian Tucker, wood by Jim Partridge and Peter Niczewski and jewellery made from non-precious materials by a wide range of makers.
In 1992 the British Council commissioned cutting-edge jewellers to make some 90 pieces for its circulating exhibition All that Glisters: New Jewellery from Britain.
Exuberant, colourful and dazzling, the exhibition travelled overseas when the reputation of British crafts, particularly jewellery, was very high. The Crafts Study Centre is delighted to show many of these pieces in their new home in Farnham. Makers include Mike Abbott, Cynthia Cousens, Anne Finlay, Leah Hinks, Daphne Krinos, Ann Marie Shillito, Carol Mather, Geoff Roberts, Annie Sherburne and Clara Vichi.
